Most activity days try to justify their worth as a corporate event simply to get the business, having experienced the majority of corporate days available we have a different view, corporate events have to have a purpose and not simply be a days out having fun.
Certain types of corporate days work well, golf for example works as in between periods of activity there is time to converse with your guests or colleagues, same applies to certain sporting events, its the combination of entertainment and communication that works.
At 4x4xgun the days offer all this and more. With the shooting events when each guest has their turn the others are watching so there is time both to chat to people but also watch and engage with the activity when others are active. Same applies to the driving events, what little downtime there is between each event is spent in the company of your guests either watching others participating or preparing for your turn at the event and the impending excitement.
In our view a good corporate event needs to have the following attributes:
You need to ensure that the event actually attracts your guests or staff, something for them to look forward to and not dread.
You need to stretch people, have them experience activities they wouldnt normally do and try things that are not easy to master, take people out of their comfort zone a little.
Whether we like it not life and business is a competition, we are all measured against something so the events you do must reflect that, there needs to be a point to the activity that can relate to their life at work and outside.
All business relies on working as a team, even individual targets rely on a team structure behind them so events must encourage this over and above individuality at the expense of others.
Learning how to build a raft from matchsticks will not help focus a development team on its goals, the events need to be at least relate to the decision making in the business.
We feel a corporate event at 4x4xgun fits all these needs perfectly:
It doesn't matter if you hate the sight of guns or loathe cars being able to blow up a small target from 20 meters or driving a racing buggy off a jump high enough to make you wince is very much fun, its not a tough sell.
Shooting a target is not easy, however its not impossible either, on a clay shooting day for example it is possible to not hit a thing all day and leave quite despondent, on a 4x4xgun day we guaranty that you'll be hitting targets and scoring points. The race buggies are very easy to drive and dont require arm strength of a body builder to manoever, going fast is a challenge but its more about feel than outright aggression to get them going quickly.
Every event on a 4x4xgun day is timed and measured, you score points based on targets hit or time taken with awards given at the end of the day. Some events are hard to take seriously of course which adds to the fun element but it all counts both as individuals and as teams.
Whilst some of the individual events are key the whole day is geared around teams competing against each other over the course of the day. The Gun Run requires the pairing to listen to instructions from the other team member, The Blindfold Challenge needs team members to communicate instructions clearly and concisely and both the shooting and driving events need trust in your team mates.
At 4x4xgun we have the luxury of a large staging area we use for guest entertainment but it also doubles up nicely as a product launch or display area. Guests enjoy their refreshments and safety briefings surrounded by products or logos of the hosting company so the association of the day is connected with the product or company hosting it. The events themselves encourage attributes important in todays workplace; team work, communication, competitiveness and diligence.
